Pohnpei currently has eleven marine protected areas, including three mangrove forest reserves and two stingray sanctuaries. These are some of the most diverse and beautiful natural environments that the island has to offer. Entry into MPAs is by permit only.
Paddling destinations in western Kitti include Pwudoi Mangrove Sanctuary, kilometers of stunning coastline, several small islands including Kiparalap, Pohn Lahpar, the Dauahk Islands, Kehpara, and Black Coral, and a variety of small mangrove channels.
The area around Temwen is one of the richest for paddlers. Mangrove channels, rocky points, deserted lagoon islands, beaches, historical sites, marine sanctuaries, and a 12th century megalithic city are just a few of the options available.
